The new BYU Student Health Center, located near Wymount Terrace apartments on the northeast side of campus, opened its doors last week.
At the same time, the McDonald Health Center closed its doors after serving the BYU community and thousands of missionaries since 1955.The new center will continue to serve BYU students and missionaries at the LDS Missionary Training Center.
"The new building features the latest technology for ambulatory care centers in a comfortable and hospitable atmosphere," said Val H. Christensen, administrative director of the BYU Student Health Center.
The new building will greatly improve the capability of the clinical staff, said Christensen. Students will benefit from shorter waiting times, comfortable waiting areas, improved examination areas, greater privacy, excellent medical technology and ample parking.
The Howard S. McDonald Health Center was originally built in 1955. Remodeled numerous times to adapt to a growing student body and increased demand for health services, the center became outdated.
The new Health Center clinic is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Urgent Care is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
