PGA TOUR

WESTERN OPEN

Site: Lemont, Ill., Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Cog Hill, Dubsdread Course (7,037 yards, par 72).

Purse: $2.2 million (winner/$396,000).

TV: USA (Thursday-Friday, 4-6 p.m.) and CBS (Saturday-Sunday, 4-6 p.m.).

Last year: Tiger Woods closed with consecutive 68s for a three-stroke victory.

Last week: Lee Janzen edged Payne Steward by one stroke to win the U.S. Open at Olympic in San Francisco. Janzen shot 73-66-73-68 for an even-par 280 total.

On the tour: Tiger Woods tied for 18th in the U.S. Open at 10-over 290. He shot 74-72-71-73, extending his string of major championship rounds in the 70s to 13.

LPGA TOUR

SHOPRITE CLASSIC

Site: Absecon, N.J., Friday-Sunday.

Course: Marriott Seaview Resort, Bay Course (6,235 yards, par 71).

Purse: $1 million (winner/150,000).

TV: Fox-New York and Philadelphia, and NBC-Atlantic City (Saturday, 4-6 p.m.; Sunday, 3-6 p.m.). Last year: Michelle McGann closed with a 7-under 64 for a three-stroke victory over Sweden's Annika Sorenstam.

Last week: Amy Fruhwirth won the Friendly's Classic at Agawam, Mass., for her first tour title.

On the tour: The U.S. Women's Open is next week at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wis.

SENIOR PGA TOUR

CADILLAC NFL CLASSIC

Site: Clifton, N.J., Friday-Sunday.

Course: Upper Montclair Country Club (6,816 yards, par 72). Purse: $1.1 million (winner/$165,000).

TV: ESPN (Friday, 1-2:30 p.m.; Saturday, 2-4 p.m.; Sunday, 2:30-4 p.m.).

Last year: Australia's Bruce Crampton won his 20th senior title on the third hole of a playoff.

Last week: England's Brian Barnes won his first tour title, finishing with a 4-under 68 for a two-stroke victory in the Canada Senior Open.

On the tour: Tampa Bay quarterback Trent Dilfer won the 1997 NFL players competition, ending Houston kicker Al Del Greco's four-year reign.

NIKE TOUR

GREENSBORO OPEN

Site: Greensboro, N.C., Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Sedgefield Country Club (6,737 yards, par 70).

Purse: $225,000 (winner/$40,500).

TV: None.

LOCAL GOLFERS

Bruce Summerhays: Took home $80,666 after finishing in a three-way tie for 2nd at the Canadian Senior Open with a 9-under par 279.

Bud Allin: Finished in 8th place tie at the Canadian Senior Open, earning $30,250 with a 4-under par 284.

Mike Reid: Tied for 49th at the U.S. Open with a 16-over par 296. Earned $9,711 for his troubles.
