Kathryn Ellison Skeen Hess, age 82, died June 22, 1998 in Ogden, Utah, of pneumonia.
Kathryn was born to William Riley Skeen and Jean Ellison Skeen on September 21, 1915, Ogden, Utah. She graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber College and BYU. She was employed at the American Can Company and Hill Air Force Base. She worked as a secretary-steno and an editorial clerk in Air Force Publications at Hill Air Force Base and retired in 1979. She had various church responsibilities in the Highland Ward, was on the Mount Ogden Sunday School board, and served on the Ogden East Stake Primary and Relief Society boards. She graduated from the Weber State Institute of Religion in 1981 and was an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.She served as a volunteer with the McKay-Dee Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary for many years, and was also a member of Children's Hour Club. Her hobbies were creative writing, crocheting and gardening. She loved being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the friendship of many.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her beloved husband Howard, who died in 1975. She is survived by two sons and a daughter: Alan H. Hess (Carol), of Bountiful, Utah; Norman B. Hess (Karla), of Fruit Heights, Utah; Kathy Holt (Scott), of Syracuse, Utah. She had 11 grandchildren whom she adored. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister: Richard E. Skeen, Ellison Riley Skeen and Ruth Bott, of Ogden. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Merrill E. and Paul E. Skeen.
Kathryn will be greatly missed by family and friends. She was ever a source of comfort, love, and kindness to all who knew her.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27, Highland Ward Chapel, 1314 27th Street in Ogden. Family and friends may call Friday, 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden and 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the Highland Ward. Interment, Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.
