25 Utah students get Smith’s scholarships

SHARE 25 Utah students get Smith’s scholarships

Twenty-five Utah high school students, many of whom have overcome serious illness or injury, drug and parental abuse or had difficulties with teenage pregnancies, each have received $1,000 scholarships from Smith's Food and Drug from its "personal best" scholarship fund.

About one-third of the scholarships went to students in rural Utah, said Kay Lee Schatten, director of the Utah Education Association's Children at Risk Foundation, co-sponsor of the program.Receiving the scholarships were Christopher Scott, Carbon School District; Paul Nelson, Matthew Bowman and Mechelle Gabron, Davis School District; Landon Mathews, Duchesne School District; Chris Lutu, Emery School District; Tiffany Murray, Peter Johnson, Wes Aguilar, Nicole Ewing and Alisha Allen, Granite School District; Kimberlee Roe, Camille James and Kim Williams, Jordan School District.

Others are Shelly Richardson, Murray School District; Lyndee Lee and Charli McFarland, Ogden School District; Mario Garcia, Provo School District; Lisa Phelps, Salt Lake School District; Kristen Brown, Sevier School District; Sharie Stewart and Teresa Carmody, South Sanpete School District; Kyli Scott, Tooele School District; Ben Taylor, Wayne School District; and Katie Wilson, Weber School District.
