A Roy man was shot and killed during a fight between two groups of teens Tuesday night.
Dwight W. Jones, 18, was shot during a fight that involved about six people in front of the Ogden Park Hotel, 247 24th St., about 6:15 p.m., said Ogden Police Lt. Dan Greenhalgh. Two shots were fired during the fight, striking Jones at least once in the upper torso, said Lt. Scott Sangberg. He was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Apparently, a dispute between the two groups of teens began Monday in Roy when one individual allegedly brandished a gun at the other group, Sangberg said. The two groups, traveling in separate cars, happened to run into each other Tuesday night near a major thoroughfare into the city.
The teens, about three in each group, began to fight. One of the teens pulled out a .22-caliber handgun and Jones was shot. Nobody else was seriously injured.
Police say the shooting does not appear to be gang related. However, a suspect has been identified, and a gun has been recovered, Sangberg said.
No arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning.
