KBULL 93.3 FM and Bobbye Sloan, wife of Jazz coach Jerry Sloan, teamed up Thursday to raise awareness of breast cancer.
By the time DJs Tommy Johnson and Joe Johnson were done, more than a dozen women older than 30 years who had no insurance and had never had a mammogram received certificates from Intermountain Health Care to get the simple, life-saving test for free.Sloan, who is a breast cancer survivor, will appear on ABC's "Oprah" on Aug. 4 to talk about her battle with the sometimes-fatal disease.
Early detection of the cancer is the answer, she told the Johnsons during the radio call-in show. She encouraged people to put away their excuses and have the test done "for peace of mind." And she reminded the audience that breast cancer can happen to anyone, including men.
