Payson will soon be getting a 13-acre park and 245 housing units.

Georgetown Development of Payson broke ground Monday for the park, single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums on 60 acres in the northeast portion of the city. The project is called Green Ridge.Green Ridge developer John Dester described the land as 60 acres of the most beautiful land he has ever seen.

About 101 townhomes will be part of the project, ranging in price from $89,000 to $1,000,000.

The park, which will be dedicated to the city of Payson, will encompass an area known as The Hollow. It runs along Peteetneet Creek that flows over to the canyon south of the site. Trees will be planted along the creek, which will remain unabated.

About 20 homes will look down at the park while others will have private parks winding through the property.

"I think this will be an enhancement and positive addition to the Payson community," said Payson Mayor Gordon Taylor. "They refined it and refined and refined it until it was approved."
