Our loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Grant Stout Heward, age 71, passed away June 25, 1998 in Sandy.
Born May 15, 1927 in Logan, Utah, son of Nephi Parshall and Genevieve Stout Heward. Married Phyllis Jensen on April 16, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. Grant worked for the Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and retired in 1982 after 31 years of service. He was a foster parent for over 35 years. He loved languages and enjoyed studying subjects in depth. He tutored Chinese in English and taught English for two years at the University in Dong Ying, China.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Tom (Jeanine), Steve (Sharon), Russ (Donna), Doug (Lisa), all of Salt Lake City, Jian (Lilly), of Maryland; daughters, Cynthia Vicaire, Sharon (Jan) Kucera, and Shauna (Curtis) Wayland, all of Salt Lake City; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Enos Heward, Salt Lake City; sister, Florence Oviatt, Woods Cross. Preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bigelow and all the caring staff at Crossland Rehabilitation.
Funeral service will be held Monday, 11 a.m., at the Midvale 11th Ward, 97 West 7500 South. Friends may call Sunday, 6-8 p.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and Monday at church, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Lake Hills Memorial Park.
