MOSLEY DEFENDS TITLE: Shane Mosley (28-0) defended his IBF lightweight title for the fourth time with Saturday's fifth-round knockout of late-replacement Wilfredo Ruiz.


EX-OILER LINEMAN DIES: Glenn Montgomery, the former Houston Oilers and Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman, died Sunday of Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 31.

FALCON ROOKIE SIGNS: Linebacker Keith Brooking, the Atlanta Falcons' top draft choice, has reached an agreement that would make him the highest-paid rookie in franchise history. The ex-Georgia Tech star gets a signing bonus of $3.8 million in a five-year contract, averaging $1,585,000 a year.


MANILA MILE: BYU sophomore track runner Eric Taylor won the second annual Manila Mile with a time of 4:17:33 on Saturday.

Former BYU track star Jay Woods finished the downhill course in second place in 4:25:30. Brent Hunsaker finished third (4:41:59).

Another BYU track athlete, Man Yee Chan, won the women's race. She finished in 4:41:59.
