The body of a Salt Lake man missing since Saturday was found Tuesday morning by Salt Lake County search and rescue workers.

The man apparently fell between 100 and 150 feet from a flat rock known to area hikers as "The Island," a Salt Lake County sheriff's special operations office spokeswoman said.Initial reports indicate the man, 27-year-old Steve Milne, died instantly, police said.

Search and rescue crews were deployed Monday afternoon, after Milne's father, Richard Milne, found his son's abandoned car in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Steve Milne had told his dad he planned to take a three hour hike Saturday, Richard Milne told police.

Family members began worrying about Milne on Sunday, after he missed a golf game with friends, Lt. Leslee Collins said.

They didn't report Milne missing until Monday because they were uncertain exactly where he had gone to hike. Richard Milne started the search on his own, going to the places he knew his son frequented.
