Specialized Bicycle Components, a California manufacturer of high-end bicycles, is moving its U.S. manufacturing and distribution center to Salt Lake City.

Chris Roybal, vice president of client services for The Economic Development Corporation of Utah, said Specialized has leased 107,000 square feet of space in Sorenson Research Park and has an option to occupy an additional 88,000 square feet in the park. The facility will allow the company to sort and store products for shipment across the U.S. and overseas.

Roybal said the EDCU helped Specialized identify potential savings in operating costs by locating the distribution center in Utah rather than California. Those savings, combined with the local labor force and transportation and logistical advantages, made the difference, he said.

The facility will create some 60 jobs in manufacturing, assembly and distribution.
