Astronauts try but fail to fix communication link

Space shuttle Discovery's astronauts struggled without success Friday to fix a failed communication link that is hampering a critical science experiment, and NASA all but declared the transmitting system dead.

The science experiment involved an effort to find and measure antimatter, an elusive form of matter theorized to exist in the universe. Antimatter has the opposite electrical charge of known matter.Astronaut Andrew Thomas, meanwhile, enjoyed his first full day back aboard a U.S. spaceship after more than four months on Mir. "I'm really thrilled to see these guys here," he said.
