Frank Richard Jex, 78, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 1998, at the University of Utah Hospital.
He was born December 11, 1919, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to James Moses and Celia Clementine Hiatt Jex. He married Elsie Farraway, May 24, 1944, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.He graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem in 1938. He served an LDS Mission to the East Central States from 1939-1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in numerous callings, including Executive Secretary, High Council, Stake Sunday School President, Sunday School and Priesthood instructor, Seminary teacher. With his wife they served as ordinance workers for nine years in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He made his living as a contractor, was on the State Building Board, and was director of Maintenance and Operations at SUU. He enjoyed music and sang with the Beehive Statesmen for many years. He was a gospel scholar and loved to read the scriptures. He was also the self-appointed neighborhood snow-blower, caring for those around him.
He is survived by his wife; four sons and two daughters, Robert (JoLynn) of Tremonton, Donald (Julye) of West Valley City, Karen (Richard) Steele of Logan; Sherri (Steve) Gurley of Payson; Keith (Monica) of Odessa, Missouri; and Grant (Patty), Syracuse, Utah. He had 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five sisters, Margaret Moyes, Betty Sharp, Mary Ellen Jolley, Joyce Westenskow, and Merlene Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lorin, and one sister, Eileen Peay.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 9, at 11 a.m. in the Bountiful 9th Ward chapel, 585 East Center, Bountiful, with Bishop Wayne Metcalfe conducting. A viewing will be held Tuesday, June 8, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and again Wednesday morning, 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the chapel.
