Injury ends 2-year record at burn plant

SHARE Injury ends 2-year record at burn plant

The long-running safety record of the burn plant, operated by Wasatch Energy Systems, has ended at 520 consecutive days without a lost-time injury.

Plant manager Jack Schmidt told the Wasatch administrative board last week that a knee injury by a new employee halted the run at a nearly two-year injury-free record.Schmidt said the employee, who may face disciplinary action, went to a hospital two days after the injury. He failed to notify supervisors at the burn plant of his injury.

Schmidt was frustrated because he has no way to verify the validity of the accident.

On a more positive note, Schmidt said the Davis County landfill, also operated by Wasatch Energy Systems, has its own safety record going.

Its employees have now gone more than 837 days without a lost time injury and are hoping to hit the 1,000 day mark near the end of 1998.
