There ought to be a "maturity clause" written into the contracts of professional athletes allowing management to withhold a large percentage of pay from any athlete who degrades himself or his sport through outrageous behavior, whether on or off the court or field. The money withheld ought to be forfeited directly to academic scholarships or apprenticeships for youths who aspire to jobs that produce something of greater value to society than mere entertainment. We need to instill in our children that great wealth demands a higher level of responsibility instead of the opposite.
