After an accident in a parking lot, police could have slapped the at-fault driver with a ticket for not having a license. But they decided the charge wouldn't stick.

The driver was a dog. When police officer Dean Herzberg responded to a call about a two-vehicle collision, an eyewitness pointed to a big yellow dog in one of the cars and said, "There's the culprit."

The car's owner was in the Hy-Vee cafe eating breakfast Saturday when his dog apparently moved the transmission lever to neutral, Herzberg said. The car then rolled into another vehicle.

"When I saw it, I just shook my head. I couldn't believe it," he said.

But there was no damage to either car, not even a scratch.
