Police here are trying to unravel the events surrounding a slaying early Friday morning.

Officers, responding to a report of what a neighbor believed were gunshots, went to a home in the Fiddler's Canyon area at the north end of this southwestern Utah city shortly before midnight.Taberon Dave Honie, 22, was in custody in the Iron County Jail after his arrest on suspicion of aggravated murder, said Police Chief Bob Allinson.

Allinson said officers surrounded the home and saw Honie leaving through a side door.

Allinson said based on statements Honie made, police believed an injured woman was inside the home. Officers went inside and found the body of Claudia Benn, 49, lying face down on the floor.

"Mr. Honie at one time was a male friend of Benn's daughter, and they had a relationship at some time," Allinson said. "Why the mother was involved, we're not sure."
