Art canvass

The Utah Museum of Fine Arts will present an "Artful Afternoon: The First Fine Arts Family Gala Picnic" on Saturday, July 18, from noon-4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will celebrate art, summer and food. There will be hands-on activities for kids, entertainment, a special sale in the gift shop, refreshments and more. Also, spend time viewing "The Delicious Exhibit," an whimsical display of appetizing paintings and sculptures by such artists as Wayne Theibaud, George Dibble and Robert Arneson. The Utah State Fairpark will host the 8th Annual Days of '47 Invitational Art Show again this year. The exhibit will run from July 18-24. New this year will be the "Youth Art Show," which allows young artists from age 6-17 to participate for prizes. For more information call Joseph S. It will be part of the monthly Gallery Stroll, introducing two new exhibits: "Water" and "The Weather is beautiful . . . wish you were here." There will be music and food. - The Children's Museum of Utah will celebrate art with children and local artists on Saturday, July 18, from 1-5 p.m. Artists and children will create a mural out of gum-balls. For more information, contact the museum at 1-801-328-3383.

- The Utah Watercolor Society will have a "paint-out" and meeting Saturday, July 18, 10 a.m. at Albion Parking Lot. For more information call Janice at 942-2069.

- The Smithsonian Exhibit "Barn Again: Celebrating An American Icon" will be on display at the Monticello Museum. The exhibit runs through Aug. 5 and will display the photographs from many artists who have recorded barns over the years. For more information on the exhibit, call Bill Boyle at 435-5878-2277.

WORKSHOPS AND LECTURES

- The Utah Museum of Fine Arts Docent Enrichment Program will present "Modern Art - What's it All About?" on Thursday, July 16 from 10 a.m.-noon at the UMFA. Speakers will be Rebecca Campbell, education curator at the Salt Lake Art Center, and Virginia Catherall, associate curator of education at the UMFA.
