A Levan teen was killed Tuesday morning on U-28 south of Levan when she accidentally rode her bicycle in front of a van.

Killed: Rachelle Kenison, 14.Utah Highway Patrol trooper Ryan Nichols said the girl died at the scene after she was struck by a van driven by Allen Harris, 49, Gunnison.

Kenison and her cousin, Karri Kenison, 15, were northbound on the highway at 6:55 a.m. The van was also northbound when the girl turned in front of the vehicle.

Accident investigators said the two girls went on a bike ride each morning and were returning home when the accident occurred near Powell Lane. Karri Kenison told accident investigators that she warned Rachelle Kenison about the van but that she must not have heard her.

Harris also said he thought the girl had seen him and was surprised when she turned in front of the vehicle.

Following the accident, Karri Kenison rode home and the parents of both girls were summoned to the scene. Harris called for help on his mobile telephone.

The accident is still under investigation and no citations were issued.
