The Layton city engineer, Bill Flanders, has resigned and a search is underway for a replacement.

Flanders, who had served as city engineer for the past 13 years, worked his last day on the job July 10.He is being replaced by assistant city engineer Dave Decker on an in-ter-im basis.

According to city manager Alex Jensen, Flanders was in no way forced or pressured to resign.

"He simply came to a point where he wanted to make a go of it on his own," Jensen said, explaining Flanders' resignation was a personal decision to pursue his own opportunities in the engineer consulting business.

According to Jensen, Flanders also has a brother in the concrete business and never really had time to do some joint projects with him.

Layton has begun advertising for a replacement and applications will close on July 27.
