The General Relief Society president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be awarded an Exemplary Womanhood Award Thursday, July 16, at Brigham Young University.
Mary Ellen Smoot will also speak in the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Center at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.The award is presented every other year by the Brigham Young University Student Service Association to a person who has given exemplary service to the church, community and the university.
Smoot has served in the community on the board of the South Davis Community Hospital, was an organizer of the Centerville Historical Society, was on the board of the local chapter of the United Way and wrote a history of Centerville. She also served with Church Hosting since 1986 and was called as Relief Society General President in April 1997.
