Policemen at the precinct that covers the Empire State Building and Times Square are accused of taking prostitutes to an apartment and having sex while on duty.
Police Commissioner Howard Safir said the officers, all veterans, took the women to an apartment within the confines of the Midtown South Precinct in Manhattan.At least 23 men have been investigated. Nineteen officers have been placed on modified duty and transferred over the past two weeks, as were an executive officer and a sergeant. The precinct's commanding officer and a lieutenant were transferred to other commands.
No criminal charges had been filed as of late Thursday, and all of the officers were being paid for modified duty.
