A murder charge was filed Wednesday against a Midvale teen accused of shooting and killing another man last weekend in a convenience store parking lot.

Troy Phil Cabibi, 17, was charged with one count of murder, a first-degree felony, for allegedly killing Arcides Saligan, 21, Midvale. He appeared in court Thursday and was ordered to return July 23 before Judge L.A. Dever.According to documents filed in 3rd District Court, Saligan and three other men were in the parking lot of the Maverik Country Store at 20 S. Main in Midvale when they heard shots coming from a red truck Cabibi was driving, the document said.

Saligan's brother, Jose Luis Saligan, told the Deseret News that Arcides Saligan was celebrating his upcoming marriage to Brisceida Tules the night he was killed. Tules is pregnant with Arcides Saligan's baby, and the couple had planned to marry the day Tules turned 18.

Jose Luis Saligan said he, Arcides Saligan and two others had gone to the store to buy beer late into the prewedding party. About 2:30 a.m., they became involved in a fight with two men in the parking lot, during which they heard shots fired from a truck parked nearby, Jose Luis Saligan said.

Arcides Saligan was struck several times and died on the scene.

Cabibi was identified as the driver of the truck, the document stated. A witness told investigators that after the shooting Cabibi told her he had just shot someone and "asked her to park the truck in the apartment's parking area," the probable cause statement said.

The same witness said she saw that Cabibi had a small silver handgun, the document said.
