Williams, activated from the disabled list before the game, scored three runs and drove in two. Tim Raines hit a grand slam as the Yankees stopped a two-game losing streak - they have not lost three in a row since the first three games of the season.Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez (4-2) pitched seven strong innings.
Juan Guzman (4-12), who now leads the AL in losses, dropped his third straight decision despite allowing just one earned run in six innings.
INDIANS 15, WHITE SOX 9: Brian Giles had five RBIs and Travis Fryman hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning as the Cleveland Indians blew an eight-run lead before regrouping to beat the Chicago White Sox. Giles went 4-for-5, hit his first career grand slam and set a career high for RBIs as the Indians snapped a four-game losing streak. Cleveland hit five homers, including a two-run drive by Jim Thome in the ninth.
TWINS 4, ATHLETICS 3: Matt Lawton's second double of the game drove in Paul Molitor with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the Minnesota Twins posted another comeback victory, beating the Oakland Athletics.
Molitor drew a leadoff walk from Mike Oquist (6-6), who retired the next two batters on groundouts before being relieved by Mike Mohler.
Lawton grounded a 3-1 pitch down the right-field line to score Molitor and give him his second straight three-hit game.
RED SOX 9, TIGERS 4: Mo Vaughn hit his 24th and 25th home runs, including one of Boston's AL-record four two-out homers in a seven-run fourth inning. Donnie Sadler hit his first major league homer, and Darren Lewis and Nomar Garciaparra also connected for the Red Sox.
RANGERS 9, DEVIL RAYS 8 : Luis Alicea had a one-out sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to push Texas past Tampa Bay. Alicea lifted a fly ball to left off Esteban Yan (4-3) to score Fernando Tatis, who singled and advanced to third on Mark McLemore's single on a hit-and-run play. Tim Crabtree (4-0) pitched a perfect 10th.
MARINERS 8, ROYALS 5: Alex Rodriguez hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Seattle Mariners won their sixth straight, over the Kansas City Royals. With the scored tied 4-4, Rodriguez homered to left off Scott Service (3-2) after Rico Rossy opened the inning with a double and Joey Cora walked. It was his 29th homer, second most in the AL behind teammate Ken Griffey Jr.'s 39, and his second in two games.
ANGELS 8, ORIOLES 3: Gary DiSarcina hit a tiebreaking two-run double and rookie Jarrod Washburn pitched well after a rocky start as Anaheim snapped Baltimore's nine-game winning streak.
