Almost 30 years ago, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration sent men to the moon. This week, it will send representatives to Snow College in Ephraim for a five-day teachers seminar.
"It's cool to have NASA come to a little town in Utah," said David Lanier, director of the Great Basin Environment Education Center.NASA is sponsoring the free workshop, titled "Exploring Environments of Space." The seminar runs from July 20-24, beginning at 8 a.m. each day, and is designed for elementary school teachers throughout the state.
NASA representatives Tom Gates and Don Scott will be on hand to educate teachers about the solar system. Topics include space exploration, astronomy, Mars and the moon. Lanier said the workshop will make teachers better equipped to instruct their students.
The GBEEC, in its fifth year, operates as a partnership between the Manti/LaSal National Forest, the National Forest Foundation, Ephraim City and Snow College. Its purpose is to study and discuss environmental issues.
