Youth groups cover up sprinkler pipe at the Jordan River Parkway, near 1700 South and 1140 West, during "Take Pride in Utah Day" Saturday. Gov. Mike Leavitt joined hundreds of schoolchildren in weeding, planting new trees and moving a footbridge. He also led a legion of volunteers laying sod at This Is the Place State Park. Volunteers in Murray were busy with nine projects. In Sanpete County, residents cleaned up city parks. Interdenominational volunteers in St. George worked to restore historic cemeteries in the Silver Reef area of southern Utah. Also, other volunteers worked on projects in many of Utah's state and national parks. An estimated 1.2 million volunteer hours were expected to be logged statewide during the projects Saturday.
