In the very early morning of July 14th, 1998, Mike told his wife Bobbie he was waiting in line for his number to be called. A while later she returned to the bedroom to find his beloved Cocker Spaniel at his side. She went to wake Mike only to find that he had flown to coop to soar with the eagles he loved so much. Bobbie and medical assistance could not convince him to return to his earthly home. He flew higher and higher until he met up with the angelic wings of his mother, Melba E.M. Seguin; father, Robert Bowerbank West; grandfather, Joseph A. Seguin; grandparents, A.J. and Gladys West; brother-in-law, Steven D. Shepherd; and his uncle, Joseph Claude Sequin, who had learned to fly two days earlier.

Michael was born April 27, 1958 in Murray, Utah, the third of four children. The other three, Clandia J. West, Marie D. Shepherd, and Montie J. (Lanna) West survive him.He went to Granite High where he won state in football in 1975, won 3rd state wrestling in 1976, then graduated. He won an athletic scholarship to Ricks College in Idaho. He married Connie Halliday in March of 1979 then had five children, Melissa C., Michael R. West, Amy L., Jessica, and Monica. Later divorced. All survive him.

He worked for Mountain Fuel, Pinkerton Security, was an EMT for Gold Cross, and later became disabled. On September 11, 1989 he married Roberta (Bobbie) Besmer Simpson along with claiming her son, Benjamin F. Simpson, as his own. They both survive him. In earlier days he enjoyed water sports, camping, and fishing. Later he collected beer steins and all sorts of eagles (shirts, posters, pictures, and figurines). The best of life for him was being with his Aunt Pat Lomax (92) and his Grandma Donna J. Seguin (101). Also his best friends Mickey and Debbie Burdett, Veoma Oldroyd, Michael Simms, Dan Brady, Sohka Ross, Wayne Poulsen, and Randy Jacobsen, all survive him. He will be missed by all that loved him.
