Smokers are litterbugs

SHARE Smokers are litterbugs

I just returned from another trip to some of the most beautiful areas of God's creation. Zion Park, Bryce Canyon Park, Kodachrome Basin Park and Goblin Valley Park were beautiful and well-maintained.

The ever-present cigarette butt was always there. Smokers, as a group, I label as uncaring and shameless litterers. Probably not all smokers are guilty, but they get blamed anyway.Perhaps a solution would be to levy a tax of 25 cents per pack with the revenue to go to anyone who brought in a butt at 1 cent each. The government would get 5 cents per pack to administer the program. It would probably cost the bureaucrats 50 cents per pack to administer it.

Education does not stop them from smoking, so education probably won't stop them from discarding their mostly lighted butts along our highways, parks and trails.

"Smokers, put your `butts' where they belong."
