Incentive offered for licensing of unsterilized pets

SHARE Incentive offered for licensing of unsterilized pets

Salt Lake County Animal Services has offered an incentive to residents of Salt Lake City, Midvale, and Taylorsville and residents of unincorporated Salt Lake County for the licensing of unsterilized pets.

Through July 31, the agency will offer a spay/neuter coupon equal to the cost of the license to the first 200 people who purchase a license for their fertile animal. The license costs $15 for Salt Lake City residents and $25 for residents of other areas served by Animal Services. In turn, Salt Lake residents will receive a coupon worth $15 off the cost of spaying or neutering. Residents of other jurisdictions will receive a $25 coupon. After a pet is sterilized, the annual license fee is only $5.

Pet owners must present proof of current rabies vaccination to complete the licensing process.

The program will help reduce the number of animals euthanized in shelters, make it easier to get licensed animals back to their owners and reduce the number of unwanted litters, said Temma Martin, public relations specialist.

Ten cities or communities in the Salt Lake area have their own animal control agency and do not fall under this particular program. They are Bluffdale, Draper, Murray, West Jordan, Riverton, Sandy, South Jordan, South Salt Lake and West Valley City.
