Salt Lake County sheriff's deputies were joined by aerial support and a K-9 unit in the Wednesday afternoon search for a fugitive who bolted into a Sugar House neighborhood.
Sgt. Peggy Faulkner said the 25-year-old man was being served with a $50,000 warrant for theft when he bolted from a detective. After a short vehicle pursuit in the 2:44 p.m. confrontation, the man abandoned his car and disappeared into a neighborhood at 1700 East and 2700 South. At one point, deputies went door to door advising residents of the search, cautioning them to be careful and to keep their eyes open.
One resident did, spotting the fugitive as he poked his head out from a bush in the resident's backyard.
Faulkner said the arrest came about two hours after the search started and happened without incident.
The man was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on the theft charge and for investigation of felony auto theft and felony evading.
