Susan McDougal's California embezzlement trial has been delayed until Aug. 3 to allow the Whitewater figure to receive medical treatment for painful back problems.

Superior Court Judge Candace Cooper confirmed Thursday that the new judge on McDougal's case granted the delay sought by her attorney. The trial had been scheduled to start Thursday, but McDougal was given permission to remain in Arkansas, where she is receiving drug and traction treatments. Medical reports show that McDougal has four or five herniated discs and spinal cord compression, said her attorney, Mark Geragos.
