Our incredible mother, sister, YiaYia and friend joined her husband Jim, son Michael and parents, James and Mary Kogapascis in a place of rest on July 24, 1998.
Georgia was born in Hiawatha, Utah in 1919. She lived in American Fork with her husband, Jim Varanakis, after their marriage in 1935. They moved to West Jordan, Utah in 1947 where she raised her four children.Georgia enjoyed entertaining for family and friends. She was very active in the Greek Orthodox Church as a Sunday School teacher, as well as being involved in Philoptohos and Daughters of Minos where she served as past president. Her hobbies included cooking, bible study, bridge, bowling, sewing, crocheting, and visiting with family and friends.
She is survived by children: Joni (daughter-in-law) of SLC; George (son) of Boise; Klea and Pete Kappos (daughter and son-in-law) of Denver; Joseph and Myra (son and daughter-in-law) of SLC; siblings: Molly Balkwill, Argery Pallios, John and George Korbis. Also survived by nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Friends and family welcome you to join them at her viewing to be held on Sunday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Deseret Mortuary. Trisiagion (prayer service) begins at 7:30. Georgia's funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Monday at 12 noon.
