The American Heart Association has gathered some heartbreaking - and saving - facts about the nation's top killer, heart disease.

- 45 percent of all heart attacks occur in people under age 65.- More women than men have died every year of cardiovascular diseases since 1984, and the gap continues to widen.

- One-fourth of American adults have high blood pressure.

- 36.5 percent of Americans 19 and under have high cholesterol.

And the good news?

- From 1985 to 1995, the death rate from heart attack fell 28.7 percent.

- More than 2,000 volunteers in Utah last year joined the fight against cardiovascular disease and stroke. But more are needed.
