A number of underprivileged youths will have a chance to be in the spotlight Wednesday when recognition awards from a summer program will be passed out in the Salt Lake County Commission chambers.
Approximately 450 youths participated in the state and county Summer Youth Employment Program this year, far exceeding recent program enrollment history. Salt Lake and Tooele county youths ages 15-21 from families on public assistance, enrolled in the school free lunch program or below the poverty level were eligible to participate.They did class work in reading, math, college preparation and business career exploration.
The awards will be given to participants who exhibited responsibility, a strong commitment to quality work, teamwork and personal growth.
The program will be Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 2001 S. State. Call 468-3890 for more information.
