Karl Thomas Maloney, 91, died July 29, 1998 in the Utah Valley Regional Hospital.
He was born June 10, 1907 in St. George, UT, the son of Richard D. (Thomas) and Eliza Hardy Maloney. He married Daisy O. Bleazard, December 31, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died December 8, 1993.Karl was reared and educated in St. George. He moved to Salt Lake City in 1925 and lived there until he retired. He worked as a machinist for Griffin Wheel Company for 34 years. He was instrumental in organizing CIO Union - later known as Steel Workers Union. He was also a building inspector for Salt Lake County for 15 years, retiring in 1972. He later lived in Bluebell and St. George area and was living in Cedar Hills at the time of his death.
Mr. Maloney was a High Priest and member of the LDS Church. He had served in the past as stake missionary and various priesthood callings. He was an ordinance worker in the Provo and St. George LDS Temple from 1986 to 1998.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons, Shirley (Evan) Llewelyn, Salt Lake City; Elaine (Dennis) Warr, Bluebell, UT; Eilleen Maloney, Woodbridge, VA; Wayne (Connie) Maloney, Magna; Brent (Patsy) Maloney, Cedar Hills, UT; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Gerald K. Maloney, West Valley City; one daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Maloney, Riverton, WY; one sister-in-law, Marion Maloney, Tooele. He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Richard Thomas Maloney; one great-grandson, Josh Llewelyn; one brother, Keith Maloney; two sisters, Lucille, M. Bevan and Bernice M. Hamilton.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 1, 1998, 2 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City. Friends may call Friday, July 31st, from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, 12:45-1:45 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
