Dr. Joel Wallach likes to joke that he treats his patients like dogs.

The veterinarian and naturopathic physician has been involved in biomedical research and clinical medicine for 44 years. He was nominated for the 1991 Nobel Prize in Medicine for more than 15 years of research on trace mineral deficiencies and birth defects. As a kid, he wondered why livestock had vitamins, minerals and trace minerals added to their farm-fresh feed, but humans didn't. Now he treats people in ways derived from his background in veterinary medicine. Because there's no health insurance, animal products such as meat and dairy are kept affordable by preventing and curing diseases with nutritional formulas in animal feed, he says. When he started using similar nutritional formulas with people, word got out that, "If you're not happy with your doctor, go see Wallach. He'll treat you like a dog, but you'll get better."

His "Dead Doctors Don't Lie" lecture has sold more than 27 million audiocassettes. Now he's bringing his message to Utah. He'll lecture at Murray High School's auditorium, 5440 S. State, Monday, July 6, and Thursday, July 9. He'll be at the Weber State University Union Building, 3750 Harrison Blvd., in Ogden on Tuesday, July 7. And Wednesday, July 8, will find the man at Utah Valley State College Student Council Ballroom, 800 W. 1200 South, in Orem. All lectures are at 7 p.m.
