Hannah Sophia (Fay) Bearnson, age 92, passed away peacefully, June 30, 1998, after a long illness.
Fay was born February 11, 1906 in Spanish Fork, a daughter of Gisle Bearnson and Christine Valgardson Bearnson. She was the second child in a family of 13 children. After graduating from Spanish Fork High School, she attended Henegar Business College, graduating in 1925.During the depression it was difficult to find a job without experience. In her first job with Salt Lake and Utah Railway she worked without pay to gain experience. Receiving high recommendations, she worked for the Pathe' News, Preferred Pictures and United Artists before coming to the Nebo School District Office where she worked for 43 years. She loved her job there and the people she worked with. Wherever she has worked she has been loved for her cheerfulness, thoughtfulness, and sense of humor, along with efficiency, integrity, and willingness to go the extra mile.
Fay was a devout student of the Scriptures, studying diligently and taking many classes to increase her understanding. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which she served much of her life in various capacities - secretary, librarian, Sunday School teacher and temple worker where she served until called on a mission to the South Florida Mission. On her return she served again in the temple and extraction center.
She was a source of strength to her family - always there when help was needed. She used up her life in service to the Lord and her fellow men.
Fay is survived by five sisters and two brothers: Norma Jones (Weston), Elva Levanger (Reed) and Sherman Bearnson (Beverly), of Spanish Fork; Wilma Harmer (Wallace) and Bertha Johnson (Eugene), of Springville; Geraldine Smith (Virgil), of Orem and Paul Valgardson (Florence), of Provo. She was preceded in death by sisters: Sarah Ellen Hanks, Bernice Bearnson, Mildred Hall, Hannah Valgardson; and a brother, Perry Bearnson.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Hospice for Utah for their kind care during her last few weeks.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Spanish Fork Stake Center, 1006 East 200 South. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, or at the church on Monday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
