Plans for construction of three additional, smaller temples have been announced by the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The temples will be built in Edmonton, Alberta; Bismarck, N.D.; and the Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota.President Gordon B. Hinckley first announced last year the decision to build smaller temples. Last week the church leader announced that smaller temples will be built in Regina, Saskatchewan, and Montreal, Quebec.
The first of the smaller temples was completed and dedicated last month in Monticello. In April, President Hinckley said 30 of the smaller temples will be built by the turn of the century.
He said the church wants to build more and smaller temples to make them more accessible to church members. The church now has 53 operating temples around the world. Eleven more are under construction, with many more in the planning stages.
