"Pop-Up Video" is popping up at college.
Virginia Tech is taking a page from VH1's popular show in its new orientation videos for freshmen. Like "Pop-Up Video," the orientation videos feature the signature bubbles of information that pop up on screen with that patented "gloop" sound. But instead of pairing trivial facts about singers with music videos, the bubble factoids for Virginia Tech include information on racism, homosexuality, alcohol and sexual assault over scenes of the campus and interviews of students.
"We wanted to make it educational but catchy at the same time," said Tom Brown, an assistant dean of students at Virginia Tech who headed the video project.
It worked for Graham Henshaw, who said, "I think that was more effective than just sitting and listening to someone."
