Republican Gov. Pete Wilson made a disparaging remark about Hillary Rodham Clinton in a breakfast speech to a business group on Friday.

"How would you like to spend 10 days alone with Hillary on that island?" he asked, referring to the first family's August vacation on Martha's Vineyard off Massachusetts. The audience laughed.Wilson told several jokes related to the presidential sex scandal but concluded he felt "some compassion" for President Clinton.

He also joked that "the leader of the free world" was usually confident, but not Friday - the day the House voted to release special prosecutor Kenneth Starr's report on the Internet.

"Today I saw him look more nervous than a balloon salesman in an acupuncture convention," Wilson said.
