In November, a precedent-setting constitutional amendment will be on the ballot. Proposition 5, formerly known as SJR10, would deny the right of a majority of Utahns to decide how they want to manage their wildlife resources.
If passed, Proposition 5 would mark the first time in our history as a state we denied the right of a majority of the people to decide how they want to govern themselves on any issue. This undemocratic amendment would establish a different set of rules for an issue determined by certain special interest groups to be too controversial to leave up to the majority. The vote of a majority of our citizens should be sufficient to decide any issue. If we can't be trusted to decide how we want to govern ourselves, then the 222-year American experiment in democracy has been a waste of time. Cast your vote to protect your vote and vote no on Proposition 5.
