A federal judge ruled that Ohio can display its motto, "With God all things are possible," on the Statehouse grounds as long as the source of the quote isn't named.

The state motto is part of a sentence from Matthew 19:26 of the New Testament. The words, when removed from that context, do not favor one religion over another, Judge James Graham ruled.Gov. George Voinovich wants to install the motto, in use since 1959, with the state seal in a sidewalk at the Capitol Square Plaza.

The American Civil Liberties Union sued, claiming the motto violated the constitutional separation of church and state.
