Two juveniles led troopers on a brief chase in a stolen car before crashing into a freeway median Wednesday.

The boys, one aged 15 and one 16, then tried to carjack the vehicle of a passer-by stopping to help, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Verdi White II said."They got into a scuffle, but the passer-by actually came out of it OK," White said.

The ordeal started when the boys got into a minor accident in the southbound lanes of I-15 on about 9000 South. Instead of stopping, the boys sped away. Troopers spotted the car traveling at around 100 mph and chased it.

Soon after it crossed into Utah County about 4:15 p.m., the car crashed into the median and rolled. After the fight with the passer-by, one boy ran from the scene, but troopers caught up and arrested him. The other boy was arrested at the crash site.

Investigators believe alcohol was involved. The car was reported stolen out of Park City, White said.

One of the boys was taken to American Fork Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Both boys were booked into juvenile detention in Salt Lake County.

The boys could face numerous charges, including evading officers, auto theft and alcohol violations, White said.
