St. George has been approved as home for a Western Baseball League team.
The city and the league still must reach a deal on bringing a team to southern Utah for the 1999 season."I'm optimistic that we're going to reach an agreement," said Patrick Elster, a minority owner of the team interested in relocating to St. George.
"We've received tentative approval from our league members to move the team to St. George. We just need to make a deal."
The team interested in playing in St. George was idle this season after playing four years in Salinas, Calif.
Elster said he expects an answer from the city by the first week of October. Final approval from the WBL could come as soon as Oct. 15, he said.
City Manager Gary Esplin said Wednesday that the city and Dixie College are working together on a proposal.
