Don’t stone the president

SHARE Don’t stone the president

From my study of United States history, I do not recall the election of a saint to the presidency, nor, for that matter, to the House or Senate.

Those we elect are prone to error, as are we who elect them. Perhaps even the special prosecutor may be imperfect. In this nation in which 95 percent of us profess belief in God, and many of us in the importance, or even the perfection, of the Bible, we might remember Jesus' words to the crowd who found the woman committing adultery: "Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." (John 8:7 New Oxford Annotated Bible)If we would follow this teaching, now as then the crowd would melt away.
