A jury acquitted "Forrest Gump" actor Mykelti Williamson of attempted manslaughter in the stabbing of his ex-wife's companion.

Jurors deliberated for about a day before returning Friday's verdict that cleared Williamson, 41, who played shrimp-loving Bubba Blue in the Academy Award-winning movie.Williamson was charged in the Jan. 5 stabbing of Leroy Edwards, who testified that he was cut on one hand and the abdomen as he fought off the raging actor. Edwards, 32, underwent surgery to close an abdominal wound.

During the trial, Williamson testified he got angry when he went to visit his 4-year-old daughter at his ex-wife's house, because he previously heard his daughter describe her mother having sex with Edwards.

But the actor's ex-wife, Cheryl Chisholm, 33, testified Williamson left angry phone messages and spied on her.

Williamson, who has since remarried, was arrested about an hour after the attack.
