LEHI--Darhl Leland Tingey, 70, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 1999, at the LDS Hospital following a cerebral hemorrhage.
He was born July 21, 1928 in Ogden, Utah to John Henry (Lee) and Elva Muirbrook Tingey. He married Roena Abbott on March 8, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Roena passed away in April of 1998.He graduated from Lehi High School and attended Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah for three years before fulfilling an LDS mission to the Hawaiian Islands in 1948. He retired from Hercules Incorporated after 20 years working in the research and development area. He and his wife were the owners and operators of the Ceramic Center of Utah in Lehi for many years.
He was active in the LDS Church, spending the majority of his life working with the youth. Most of the time he was helping young men become better citizens through the scouting program. He had a great love for his scouts and spent many summer vacations at scout camp.
He was a long time member of the Lions Club. He was a member of the Lehi Lions Club at the time of his death. He has served as club president, zone chairman, and deputy district governor and served on countless service projects in our community and the state of Utah.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Richard) Clark of Lehi; two sons, David (Colleen) Tingey of Springville; and Randy (Cindy) Tingey of Lehi; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Clark, John Clark, Tyler Tingey, Matthew Tingey, James Tingey, Michael Tingey of Lehi and Scott Tingey, Mark Tingey, Eric Tingey, Aubrey Tingey, Amy Tingey of Springville; and one brother, Val (Laurel) Tingey of Bluffdale. He was proceded in death by his wife; three children, Linda, Alan, Larry; and his parents.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 16, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Lehi Gateway LDS Chapel, 1364 W. 1870 No., Lehi, where friends may call Friday evening 6-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Wing Mortuary.
