ST. GEORGE, Utah--Robert Henry Ball, 85, died Friday, January 15, 1999 in St. George.

He was born May 17, 1913 in Evanston, Wyoming to Thomas Gladstone and Emma Turner Ball. He married Katherine Mary Bennett, July 5, 1934 in Coalville, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple.Mr. Ball lived most of his life in Evanston, Wyoming. Upon his retirement in 1981, he moved to St. George. He worked long, hard hours supporting his family as a Phillips 66 jobber and managing service stations. Mr. Ball was know among his business associates as a man of his word. He loved fishing and hunting when he was younger. After retiring, he and Katherine spent many hours rock-hunting. During their travels, they met and made lots of friends. Mr. Ball mastered the art of silversmithing and faceting and making jewelry from the rocks gathered. His family and friends are the welcome recipients of his artistic talents. Word spread of his talent in this area and many benefited from his sharing of his knowledge.

Mr. Ball is survived by his wife, Katherine of St. George; daughters, E. Kay Higginson of Taylorsville, UT; Loris (Royce) Bills of St. George; Dorothy (Robert) Wright of Kemmerer, WY; Shirley (Lynn) Earl of Taylorsville; Kathy (Calvin) Welling of Eden, UT; Susan (Mac) Loveridge of Springdale; Nancy (Scott) Bodine of Layton; 29 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and a brother, Osborn Ball of Prescott, AZ.

Graveside Services will be Monday, January 18, 1999 at 3 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park in Salt Lake City. Visitations will be Sunday, January 17, 1999 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 300 W. St. George Blvd. and Monday, January 18 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Lake Ridge LDS Chapel in Salt Lake. Arrangements and interment under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 673-4221.
