Talking on a cell phone while driving will remain legal in Utah, at least for another year.

Rep. Ralph Becker, D-Salt Lake City, has decided not to sponsor legislation outlawing the use of hand-held cellular phones by vehicle operators.Instead, Becker hopes to create a task force to consider ways to prevent accidents caused by inattentive drivers.

"The task force will supersede the necessity to introduce legislation by addressing the more general problem of accidents caused by all forms of inattentive driving," Becker said in a statement released Monday.

"This task force will focus on a variety of ways to reduce accidents resulting from careless driving."
