Victor John Sismondi, age 81, passed away peacefully from a sudden stroke at LDS Hospital Friday, January 1, 1999.

Born in North City, Illinois, June 8, 1917 to Giovanni Anton and Lidia Nardo Sismondi. He was the middle of three children and raised in the Catholic faith. His mother died when he was a baby and he was brought up by his stepmother, Maddalena Curto Sismondi. His father later died when Victor was 13.Victor married Delores Straaberg in 1951. Shortly after their marriage, Victor invited his mother-in-law, Eva Straaberg, to live with him and Delores and she stayed with them until her death in 1980.

Victor had traveled 49 of the 51 states before his marriage. After marriage, he and his wife were fortunate to travel to Hawaii and Alaska, the two states he had missed, as well as touring six of the seven continents. He was looking forward to visiting Antarctica when his wife's health improved.

Being self-employed, he was able to arrange his schedule to be on the golf course by 1 p.m. daily and play up to 36 rounds of golf 6 days a week. He also enjoyed playing cards, pool, fishing, gardening and outings with his family. He was always very athletic and enjoyed good health until at age 78 when he broke his hip playing basketball with his grandchildren, whom he simply adored.

Survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Delores; three children, whom he was very proud of: son, John Sismondi (Maggie) Puyallup, WA; and daughters, Victoria Thomas (Randall) Taylorsville, UT; and Holly Sismondi-Snell, Salt Lake City, UT; eight grandchildren: Angela and Julie Sismondi; Tiffany, Tamara, Talisha and Randall-Victor Thomas; Bobby and Jaclyn Snell; brother: Bruno Sismondi, Healdsburg, CA.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 1999, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple at 2 p.m. Friends may call Tuesday 7-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at Larkin Mortuary. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
